ABUJA: Ekiti LG Boss Goes Gaga

When psychologists, sociologists and socio-linguists come to Nigeria to do a study on how people in high places are crazy for titles, they do not need to go too far. In one of the local councils in Ekiti State, there is a veritable specimen, a female chairman who went haywire because she was not given an award she craved.
On Saturday 7 November, the woman instructed her bouncers to maul one of the people behind the award, organised by the Senate Committee on Local Government and SEGNIP Promotions.
What irked her, as Across Nigeria found out, was that she had coughed out N400,000 to the organisers to announce her as the Best Local Council boss in Ekiti. But the organisers revealed their choice - the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government.
Rather than the number one position which she wanted, she was listed among the best five out of the 13 chairmen in the state. In anger, the chairman demanded for her money. And when the organisers were telling her the story of how Mungo Park discovered River Niger, her hoodlums beat the daylights out of one of the officials. To save the victim’s life, he was rushed for treatment at a hospital in the FCT.
Kayode Adegbayo, the boss of SEGNIP Promotions, condemning the chairman’s aggression said: “Her conduct is very unbecoming of the exalted position she occupies. The N400,000 was refunded to her, although she went away with the certificate.”
