I Wanted To Buy A ‘Tokunbo’

April 08, 2008 00:59, 28 views

Mr. Olukayode Ogunsakin, who won one of the two Kia Rio cars at TheNEWS 15th anniversary raffle draws explains how thrilled he is with the magazine

Q: Since when have you been reading TheNEWS magazine?

A: Since 1995 or 1996.

Q: What really attracted you to the magazine?

A: It is the boldness and the truth that I always see in the magazine. I just got attracted to it and I have been buying it since.

Q: Have you been reading its sister publication, P.M.News?

A: I have, but lately that has not been regular. I read every publication from the stable of TheNEWS. I still have copies of TEMPO in my house.

Q: Is this your first time of participating in TheNEWS or PMNews draws?

A: No I did in 2004, when I entered for PMNews anniversary draws.

Q: What was on your mind when you were entering for TheNEWS’ draws?

A: I was hoping my luck would shine. I didn’t know I would win, but just hoped that God would answer my prayers. Luckily, I won.

Q: What came to your mind when you heard that you had won a brand new car?

A: I told the person who called me from TheNEWS that I had not seen it in your publication. Another person called that I should buy PM News of Friday 28 March which I did.

Q: Did you see the programme on television last Thursday?

A: I didn’t watch it. I was held up in the traffic on my way home from work.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself?

A: I am Olukayode Ogunsakin. I  hail from Ado-Ekiti.  I attended Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti. I later attended Federal Polytechnic, Oko, and Lagos State Polytechnic. I work with a subsidiary of a new generation bank. I am married with two children and my wife is a teacher.

Q: How do you feel now?

A: I feel great and I thank God for blessing me with this gift. I also thank the management of Independent Communications Network Limited, publishers of TheNEWS and PM News. Before now, I was hoping to buy a Tokunbo (second- hand) car before the end of this year, but God has blessed me with a brand new car.

Q:  Right now, you are like a brand ambassador of TheNEWS. What will you tell people about the magazine?

A: In my office, somebody is already asking me to help him get the subscription form of the magazine because he wants to win in the next promotion. But I told him that I have been a subscriber for many years. But back to your question, I will tell them the ideals the publication stands for. I will also tell people that TheNEWS always delivers on its promises.

Q:How were you getting ICNL products during the military era?

A: It was very tough. You had to watch your back and be sure that those military guys were not watching you.
The military guys were just harassing everybody. You’d be in trouble if you were caught with a copy of TEMPO magazine. We thank God that phase is over and I have been enjoying the magazine every week.

Q: You ignored the threat of the military to keep buying our products. Why?

A: I wanted to get the best of the news in the country and the magazine was giving us that.

Q: What else do you think TheNEWS needs to do to make it more appealing?

A: I have not been seeing some of the old columnists. For me, they should try and bring some of them back.
