Your story on the feud between Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola goes to show that just as people fight for primacy in the field of politics, so also is it in the realm of business.
Asalu Mohammed,
Ikorodu.
I hope you people are not bringing ethnic politics into this matter. Your story, clearly, was skewed against Dangote. Is it because he is Hausa/Fulani?
Isah Ibrahim,
Kano.
The problem with Aliko Dangote is that, like some politicians, he practices winner-takes-all in business!
Taye Ojomu,
Ado-Ekiti
It would be to Nigeria’s benefit if other Femi Otedolas come up and break Dangote’s monopoly over cement, sugar, rice and flour.
Cosmos Emeka,
Onitsha.
Critics of Aliko Dangote should also see Femi Otedola in the same bad light. For every drop of diesel you consume, you are indirectly enriching Otedola. He is an oil magnate who abhors any challenge whatsoever on his turf.
Johnson Omoroutonwam,
Benin City.
Let the Federal Government direct the Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro to investigate the allegation of attempted poisoning made by Femi Otedola.
Peter Omo-Ojo,
Akure.
It is quite disappointing how these two distinguished Nigerians, Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote, are fighting each other.
What example are they setting for young businessmen?
July Fiberesima,
Yenagoa.
Money is truly the root of a lot of evil. When things were rosy between Otedola and Dangote, they both reaped the benefits that came. But what put them together has also separated them. It was only a matter of time before greed, envy and such human flaws set in to disrupt the hitherto chummy relationship.
Philip Osunbor,
Benin.
I do not know what makes people throw away all sense of decorum in the pursuit of money. This mentality is really being carried too far in Nigeria. To what else can one blame this back-stabbing and outright betrayal scenario that is playing out between Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola? It is a pity that their once enviable friendship has crumbled.
Ahmed Babatunde,
Kaduna.
Why has the friendship between Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola turned into enmity? I think only these two people know the root of the discord. There might be something deeper than the business angle from which we are viewing the issue.
Seun Abolade,
Jebba.
If the threat to Femi Otedola’s life is truly a move from Dangote’s quarters as it is being alleged, I think things have been carried to a very uncivilised level. It is high time these two billionaires came to their senses and realised that not a kobo will be buried with either of them when they are through with this life.
Alimi Muhammed,
Ilorin.
It is a shame that two major industrialists in Nigeria, Aliko Dangote and Otedola, cannot but bring the bitter rivalry between them to the public space.
It only goes to show that they don’t have the interest of Nigerians but theirs at heart.
Mohammed Aliyu,
Kano.
It beats my imagination that Dangote and Otedola could stoop so low as to engage each other in unhealthy brickbats, and in the public domain for that matter. While it is true that both of them are competitors, that is not a license for unnecessary backstabbing and cheap blackmail.
Efe Omoright,
Benin City.
If Otedola and Dangote who are supposed to be role models to our budding businessmen and women could engage in such petty rivalry, I wonder what they expect our children to do.
I think it is high time they buried the hatchet and worked towards the betterment of our country.
Niyi Odelowo,
Akure.
The bitter rivalry between Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola has shown indeed that despite the massive wealth they control, they are no different from the bunch of greedy businessmen in this country. Now Nigerians know that our businessmen are just there to enrich themselves. But the beauty of their rivalry is that it has exposed their insatiable greed.
Umoru Mohammed,
Sokoto.
I couldn’t but laugh after reading through your cover story on the feud between Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola. Both men made money by brushing aside other players in their respective sectors and now they are at each other’s throat. God don catch dem!
Akpososo Umukoro,
Warri.
I think what is happening between billionaires Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote should be expected when friendship is based not on trust but convenience. Femi should stop ranting and move on with his life. Afterall, he has done similar things to a lot of people in the past. What goes round comes around.
Michael Agu,
Nsukka.
Aliko Dangote seems to have the blood of betrayal flowing in his veins. It is quite unfortunate that Femi Otedola didn’t read between the lines in their famed friendship. I pity him because Dangote is out to crush him.
Adamu Abubakar,
Abuja.
The quarrel between Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola is a very positive development for the growth of our national economy. Between them they command up to 2 per cent of our overall gross domestic product.
As they are too big to remain as one, rivalry between them would ensure that they don’t hold Nigeria’s economy by the jugular.
Alex Okafor,
Lagos.
The story on the feud between Otedola and Dangote was a masterpiece. Beyond that, TheNEWS must also seek to find out why Jimoh Ibrahim and Mike Adenuga are not on speaking terms. And also why Dangote and the Vaswanis don’t walk the same path? Above all, why are our billionaires at loggerheads with one another.
Israel Atebo,
Lagos.
Dangote and Otedola are both made-by-Obasanjo billionaires. It is not only positive but also imperative that both friends must clash. For it is written that friendship founded on business is better than a business founded on friendship.
Alexandra Obaifo,
Benin-City.
Dangote is a dirty businessman. He made his billions via government patronage and underhand business practices, so I am not surprised at his resort to black market tactics to chase Otedola out of existence. But then, why is Otedola now crying foul when he is in the periscope-sight of Dangote? He cannot deny that he relished witnessing Dangote spiking lesser businesses to oblivion when the going was good between them.
Uche Onyekachi,
Umuahia.
What might Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola be fighting over? It is ridiculous that the only two Nigerians listed by Forbes as among the world’s richest are engaged in a petty squabble that may bring both crashing from their exalted heights. Maybe Otedola should learn to be humble. And perhaps Dangote should show a little more integrity in his bid to crush a perceived rival.
Whatever the case, my advice is simple: settle amicably.
Mary Jayeola,
Oshogbo.
Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola are Nigeria’s ambassadors in the international business arena. They need to bury the hatchet and uphold the good image of the country.
Eniola Sowunmi,
Oro.
The feud between Otedola and Dangote clearly shows that the poor masses in Nigeria don’t really have any hope of survival if their fate is to be determined by the two avaricious magnates. It is quite amazing how a personal fight between two people is affecting the fortunes of millions of people. Let the two sheathe their swords before things get out of hand.
Seun Adenekan,
Abeokuta.
If the allegations raised by African Petroleum against Alhaji Dangote are true, he has no moral right to remain as the Vice-President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. It is a shame that people could use their position to manipulate things in their favour even to the detriment of the larger society.
Wunmi Ogundele,
Lagos.
For God’s sake, President Umaru Yar’Adua should not just sit and watch the feud between Dangote and Otedola degenerate beyond what is on ground now. Though people might want to say that the feud is a private affair, I believe that the outcome, especially as it affects the AP shares, could be disastrous.
Frederick Johnson,
Asaba.
I don’t want to believe that Alhaji Dangote is responsible for the steep decline in the shares of African Petroleum. The oil company is not insulated from the global financial meltdown that has taken its toll on every stock.
Why didn’t the management of AP cry foul when the stock benefited from undue price appreciation prior to its visiting the capital market for fund raising?
Price manipulation will continue at the stock market until the NSE matures and the Securities and Exchange Commission lives up to its regulatory assignments.
Segun Akanni,
Ibadan.
The duo of Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola should surrender their arms and ammunition. They should think of more beneficial things to engage in. A word is enough for the wise.
Ahmadu Tijani,
Ilorin.
As the war between the two Nigerians recognised by Forbes as billionaires gets messier, well meaning Nigerians, led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, should make effort to reconcile them.
The two great men have contributed immensely to the growth of this great nation.
Felix Amah,
Port Harcourt.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola are just two of a kind. To me, in a free economy where there is liberty to enter or exit any business, the duo need not be at daggers drawn. There is adequate room for competition in the interest of the common people. Competition at its best brings about efficiency and fall in prices.
Mabel Ajugu,
Benin City.
The story that the feud between Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote–two of the richest men in Nigeria–has worsened made my day. Not only was the story well written, the artist’s depiction of the two men with gloves, getting set to throw punches impressed me. We need more good stories like this one from TheNEWS, the true master.
Bello Kofar- Mata,
Kano.
No matter how hard we try, we may never know the real cause of the quarrel between Aliko Dangote and his good friend, Femi Otedola. I say this because these two people were very close indeed. That an attempt was made to poison Otedola shows how messy the whole thing has become. I hope friends of the men will step in and bring about genuine reconciliation.
Taiwo Oriade,
Oshogbo.
Let Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola tear themselves to pieces, I will not be bothered. Afterall, they did not make their money so much by dint of hardwork. They only profited from their closeness to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo to become multi-billionaires. How rich, for example, was Femi Otedola before Obasanjo became president?
Jide Bello,
Kabba.
After reading your story on the feud between Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Femi Otedola, I became much more informed about how brutal Dangote can be in defending his business interests.
It is clear that he is behind the reversals that Otedola’s companies, especially African Petroleum, have suffered lately.
Segun Muyiwa,
Epe.

16 April 2009 23:41These two characters are the principal vessels through which Obasanjo defrauded the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dangote was wealthy before Obasanjo’s emergence as president, but he had no where close to the kind of wealth he has today. Through OBJ he monopolized many sectors of the Nigerian economy, as all competitors were systematically subdued by OBJ. Who was Otedola before OBJ? Definitely not the billionaire he is today. I am baffled when Nigerians extol these individuals, and rejoice in their inclusion in the forbes list of billionaires. I suspect that it would take Nigerians tens of years to come to grips with the Obasanjo privatization scam.

19 April 2009 20:43Following the just held convocation in University of Portharcourt, I suggest that your next edition should focus on the mess called education in Nigerian Universities. When degree award is on the basis of financial status instead of merit. You will do us good to let us know why parttime students seem to perform better than fulltime students. Is it the same lecturers that teach on both programmes? The story am getting from students in that institution calls for some focus on the educational system before we produce graduates that are illeterates. Thanks

24 May 2009 19:23Both Dangote and Otedola should understand themselves , i see no reason why they should be raising war against themselves . To me , i love these people cos they have made lot of nigerians someone by creating employment for many nigerians . They should pls settle things friendly btw themselves and continue their bussinesses and friendship .

30 May 2009 21:55I am sincerely disappointed with MR Otedola for easily chickening out of the Feud with Alhaji. Dangote.
We in the management team are very disappointed with him.
We have always borne the brunt, all these years of the callous/selfish decisions of nearly all our past board chairman, and this is no exception.
We had taught that he would use this incidence to teach Dangote a good lesson, but he easily threw in the towel,by so doing confirming the allegations of fraud, selfishness and greed all hovering around his neck.
