Bode George Deserves To Rot In Jail

What is this country turning into? Do we really have any conscience at all? Someone was arrested and arraigned for stealing billions of naira, and here he is laughing and waving at his ‘colleagues’ as if he is a sort of hero. Someone should tell Chief Bode George that he deserves to rot in jail.

Blessing Mba,
Ilupeju-Lagos.

So, the ‘great’ Bode George could be arrested and arraigned after all. This is interesting. Before his arrest George had been boasting about his untouchability, even daring the Economic and Financial crimes Commission or any other law enforcement agency to come up with evidence or arrest him. Now that the EFCC has arrested and taken him before a court of law, he should start telling Nigerians how innocent he is.

Gbemisola Adeniji,
Lagos.

The EFCC boss, Madam Farida Waziri is proving critics wrong by arresting the seemingly almighty Bode George. By now he must have been humbled and learnt his lessons that everyday is for the thief but one day is for the owner. Chief George should realise that there is always a time for giving account.

John Fasuyi,
Ibadan.

The recent indictment of Bode George may have been marked by a lot of media hype and fanfare, but the truth is that when all the noise dies down, it may signal an end to the case. This is not the first time Bode George will be in the limelight over one charge or the other. On what basis can we hope that he will be brought to justice this time around?

Pius Etekpo,
Warri.

When you came up with your exclusive on Bode George, many people did not take you seriously. I had a running battle trying to convince those around me that the information you presented could not be totally wrong. Now I can raise my head high because you proved to be 100 per cent correct. Kudos to TheNEWS.

Adeojo Kazeem,
Ibadan.

The EFCC is only picking up some people to convey a message of being serious with the anti-corruption war. The truth is that nothing will happen in the end. I am ready to bet everything I have that the Bode George case will go the same road as the Ibori case went. It would be better if we stopped wasting our time and let corruption have the free rein it is already enjoying unofficially.

Anielo Ibe,
Enugu.

Considering the questionable and wobbly integrity of our judiciary, it would be a refreshing reassurance to see a major PDP figure like Bode George behind bars for all the misappropriation charges leveled against him by the EFCC. His case should be used to set an example to those who strut the corridors of power with complete disregard for the proper handling of public funds.

Fidelis Nwaneri,
Port Harcourt.

Bode George and his fellow pirates inflated contracts with impunity, an act tantamount to conspiracy and stealing. I see no difference between him and common thieves caught and jailed everyday. This trial should not be another unending charade. The man should end up behind bars.

Bisi Olagunju,
Abeokuta.

At last, Bode George, the ‘Lagos Boy’ who passed through Ondo State and rendered it empty is in the net. That goes on to confirm that what goes round comes around. The only problem is that he, like his numerous peers who ran this country aground, may not go to jail.

Wale Elewure,
Akure.

Is Bode George any worse than Obasanjo? Why is the EFCC not looking in the direction of people like Peter Odili and the rest? Why are they deceiving themselves when in fact, the government gave blanket freedom to known rogues to lord it over Nigerians? In comparison with some others, George is a saint. They should stop embarrassing him.

Mustapha Danladi,
Kano.

The PDP installed Bode George as Board Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, for a purpose best known to them. The man awarded over 24,252 contracts valued at over N100billion in that position. PDP stalwarts were beneficiaries. The party practically endorsed his actions. The party is still in power, and he will receive its backing, make no mistake about that.

Olu Daramola,
Victoria Island, Lagos.

It’s a thing of joy that many people who had thought they were untouchable during the reign of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo are being brought to face the law courts to explain their part in the looting of the nation. But there are still others that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, needs to go after. I will only praise Hajiya Farida Waziri and her EFCC when all of these corrupt elements have been brought to justice, not just paraded as suspects and released later to enjoy their loot.

Bayo Isah,
Lagos.

At last, TheNEWS has been vindicated with the arrest, detention and commencement of the trial of Bode George. Now, we have been told by those who should know that George actually stole. As we await his conviction, I hope there will not be any monkey business by the ruling PDP.

Jones Akunne,
Owerri.

I see Bode George’s arrest and trial differently. For me, his trial should naturally begin with an unconditional apology to Nigerians not only for abuse of office, but for lying. That old man should be ashamed of himself.

Akinbode Smith,
Lagos.

Your story on Chief Bode George laid to rest every speculation concerning his involvement in the looting of Nigerian Ports Authority. We all now know who the true thief is.

James Kolo,
Warri.

Until Bode George is fully tried and sentenced, characters like him will still think that stealing public funds is a profitable way of life. He must be used as an example if we really hope to save this nation from the scourge of corruption.

Akuabata Okonkwo,
Enugu.

While Bode George’s arrest and looming trial should naturally be a source of satisfaction among Nigerians desirous of a healthy change in public service. Past experience tells me that such hope may be premature. When one recalls the enthusiasm with which the fabulous wealth James Onanefe Ibori cornered from the public was disclosed and the kingmaker role he has now assumed, one should be reluctant to hope that the day of reckoning has finally come for those who dip their soiled hands into the public till.

Biodun Shitta,
Iju-Lagos.

Bode George is a disgrace who continued to move around with a swagger, intimidating the staff and management of TheNEWS magazine for daring to expose his corrupt deeds. He even slammed a N500m suit against the magazine, accusing it of lying against him. Now Nigerians can see who is the real liar between TheNEWS and Bode George.

Istifanus Moses,
Jos.

I commend TheNEWS for breaking the news of Bode George’s looting of the Nigerian Ports Authority. The trial of this hitherto untouchable leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is a vindication of your magazine’s single-minded pursuit of the truth no matter whose ox is gored. God will adequately reward you for this great service to our fatherland.

Mohammed Bello,
Zaria.

Pride, as the saying goes, precedes a fall. In the case of Chief Bode George, he fell with an impact that would take a long time to be forgotten.

Yemisi Dagunduro,
Lagos.

When TheNEWS wrote about the scandal at Nigerian Ports Authority and the involvement of Chief Bode George, he ranted that it was the figment of the publishers’ imagination. But with what George is going through now, the magazine has had the last laugh.

Heineken David,
Bonny Island.

The likes of Chief Bode George will remain in the land until money no longer rules politics.

Samuel Okoduwa,
Benin City.

Your cover story on the trial of Bode George has revealed further the extent to which our so-called politicians or public office holders have been abusing their offices by awarding illegal contracts running into billions of naira, thereby putting the country’s economy in its current awry shape. Nigerians are, however, waiting to see the outcome of Bode George’s trial.

Tolulope Towobola,
Lagos.

It’s quite laudable that your magazine has been bringing issues on corrupt so-called leaders like Bode George to the front burner of public discourse. I salute your courage, vision and foresight in fighting corruption that has eaten deep into the psyche of most of our public office holders.

Idowu Animashaun,
Ile-Ife.

Make no mistake about it, the present administration is after the so-called OBJ Boys. Even at that, I think it is good for Nigerians to know the billions of naira stolen during the tenure of the retired General.

Bukky Aremu,
Alagbado, Lagos.

I have a strong feeling that Bode George’s trial is a pantomime, meant to deceive us all. Nothing will come out of it.

Biodun Aribisala,
Ago-Iwoye

Now Farida Waziri makes the world to believe that she is doing a fantastic job by docking Bode George. However, it was his predecessor, the much vilified Nuhu Ribadu that did the ground work. Will she jail Bode George or play politics with his trial?

Philips Emeka,
Onitsha.

What further evidence of impunity can a hardened, unrepentant rogue show than the smiling visage Bode George presented on his way to and from the court, where he was arraigned for his alleged role in the looting of billions of naira at NPA. In saner climes he would be ashamed and sober for even being accused of such crimes.

Niyi Oshilaja,
Ijebu-Ode.

George and his cohorts history will judge her harshly. Nigerians are watching.

Bola Esuola,
Ibadan.

The trial of Bode George was long overdue. I really commend the effort of the new EFCC boss, Mrs. Farida Waziri for daring to grab the bull by the horn. People like George are always under the illusion that they are above the law. But I believe he and his cohorts now know that they don’t have any hiding place.

Wilson Godswill,
Yenagoa.

I think we should allow the court to do its job. As we all know, an accused person is presumed innocent until a court of law convicts him. To me, Chief Bode George should be left alone by the press. Let the court come out to say he is guilty before we can now know the type of stones to throw at the man. But right now, Bode George is not yet a thief as the press guys are making us to believe.

Mukaila Ogunsina,
Ibadan.

The trial of Bode George and his comrades in crime is evidence of the transience of power. His arrest showed that power had changed hands. With this development there would be no more OBJ breathing down the necks of EFCC officials to spare his foot soldiers like George, whom he used to destabilise the Yoruba race.

Tolani Jinadu,
Lagos.

I think it is high time that public office holders are made to account for their stewardship in order to do away with the scourge called corruption. This however would enhance growth both politically, economically, socially, academically etc….
