Nigerian Breweries plc raises the stakes for Gulder Ultimate Search
By Ernest Omoarelojie
This year, Nigerian Breweries plc, organisers of the television reality programme, Gulder Ultimate Search, are set to take off the roof. On offer to the 10 finalists of the 2008 edition of the show are a string of bigger prizes. The winner of the first prize will go home with N7 million, N2 million more than was offered last year; a N500,000 wardrobe allowance and a N10 million Sports Utility Van. There is even a hint of gender sensitivity. For instance, if the winner is not a woman, the female contestant that is closest to the winner gets N1 million. The eight other contestants will, in descending order, win prizes worth the time spent on the show. For example, the first runner-up will earn N2.5 million, while the second runner-up gets N1.5 million. The next contestants get N750,000, N700,000, N650,000, N600,000, N550,000, N500,000 and N450,000 respectively. “What we want to keep doing is to ensure that every year, we come out better than the year before,” Ageni Yusuf, Corporate Affairs Adviser, NB plc, explained.
To be part of the party, intending contestants from 18 years and above are expected to complete free entry forms on www.gulderultimatesearch.tv. While the final screening for the 10 finalists will take place in Lagos, there will be pre-qualification screenings for all the contestants in five zonal centres across the country. These are Lagos, Enugu, Owerri, Benin and Kaduna. Beginning from 19 July, fans of the show will have 21 exciting days on both national and cable television, as the final contestants embark on the journey to find the LOST CHRONICLE, a hypothetical treasure that will banish the tyrant warlord and protect the future. The task, expected to be tedious, will be performed on the breathtakingly undulating Awgu Hills in Enugu. The choice of Awgu, according to the organisers, was informed by its challenging terrain, capable of testing the physical and mental strength of the would-be ultimate man or woman. Another improvement on the last edition is the provision of water-tight security for contestants and crew. This was informed by last year’s incident, when Anthony Mudiagha, one of the finalists, died during the exercise in Shere Hills, Jos, Plateau State. The organisers have concluded arrangements with one of the country’s leading insurance companies to provide comprehensive insurance cover for the contestants, crew and equipment. “We are not leaving anything to chance at all. We are deploying the best of technology to ensure that we monitor everything with precision, minute by minute. The reason is that for us, safety, health and security are of premium importance and we will provide them with the highest standard possible. We are deploying thousands of regular police and private security personnel across the location to make sure that nothing is left to chance,” said Tony Aghenmonmhen, NB plc’s Marketing Manager, Lager. The Gulder Ultimate Search began five years ago when the Snake Island, Lagos hosted its inaugural edition. It moved to the enthralling Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State for its second edition. The third edition held at NIFOR, near Benin City in Edo State. The last edition in Jos ended the search for the keys to the golden age.
