My Wife Had Been Stealing

 

 

Q: For how long have you been married to her and how many children does she have for you?
A: We have been married since 1987, that is about 22 years ago and she has given birth to four children.

 

Q: How did you discover that it was your wife who stole your N4million?
A: She has been stealing my money for a long time. She had stolen sums like N100,000 and N200,000 from me. But I always hushed it up because I could not go around telling people that my wife was stealing my money because she is the mother of my children. But seven weeks ago, I came home in the morning with N4 million. The money was the contribution made by members of my club. When I got home, I went to the bathroom. After taking my bath, I went to NASFAT, from where I went to my club, believing that the money was where I kept it. The next day, I called my manager in the office to come to my house and take the said money to the bank. But when I opened the door of the room, I did not see the N4 million. Surprisingly, the door of the room was not damaged.

 

Q: Was it only the N4million that was in kept in the room?
A: It was only the N4 million I kept there; it was in two polythene bags.

 

Q: So, how did you know it was your wife that stole it?
A: It was on the third day the money was stolen. I was looking for one of my car keys upstairs. In my house, there is a main building and a mini-flat. It was in the mini-flat I kept the money. So when I was looking for the car key, my wife said maybe it was where I kept my money downstairs that I forgot the key. So I went back to the mini-flat in search of the car key. As I pulled one of the chairs in the room, what I saw was a very big live snake in the same place I kept the money.

 

Q: Was that how you concluded that she stole the money?
A: No, the day after I met the snake in my room I was in the house with my friends, who came to see me about the incident. A call came on my phone and the caller asked me what happened in my house yesterday. I told him nothing happened. But the caller insisted that I tell the truth. He said I killed a snake yesterday and asked what happened before the snake was killed. I told him my money was stolen. The caller then told me that I should stop looking for the money because the snake I killed was a human being.

 

Q: Who was the caller?
A: I don’t know him and I don’t know how he got my number. I switched off my phone immediately after the call. We continued to search for the money. But I was complaining at home that the person I was suspecting was one of my tenants, who I parked my car behind his window. I occupy the whole flats upstairs, while the tenants live downstairs. It was when the tenant noticed that I was suspecting him that he dashed to the Sango Police Station to lodge a complaint about the incident. So, I was invited by the Police. On getting to the station, I met my tenant. So the District Crime Officer said he learnt that my money was stolen and that the next day, I met a live snake in the same place I kept my money.

 

Q: When did you get to know that it was your wife that stole the money?
A: It was when I got to the police station at Sango and I told the Police that I had been receiving calls from some unknown people about the stolen money. They asked if I had the numbers of the callers and I said they were still on my phone. So I gave them the numbers, which they called. Fortunately, one of the callers answered the call from the Police. He was set up with a woman. Shortly after, they were arrested at Owode-Ijako. I got to know that it was my wife and her lover, Alfa Jamiu Sanusi, popularly known as Akewusola, that stole the money. It was my wife that gave Akewusola the key to the room where the money was kept and they both took the money away and kept the snake there. It was Akewusola that took the money away.
